Is there an IB group where you don't have to do work on Sundays?? Really tired of this

Sunday looks like a full-blown workday. Staffer said only work that should be done on Sunday is "critical" work but otherwise it is a "prep" day. Most people don't follow this. Is every BB IB group that's not like this??? I just get really mad sometimes.

People in ib need to find Jesus and stop grinding on Sunday

At a T2 BB and would estimate that I’ve worked 1/3-1/2 of Sundays, usually just for a few hours doing “prep work” as you called it. Only had a few Sundays where I was working most the day.

However, some analysts in my group work a lot of Sundays/Saturdays (which are supposed to be protected). It’s hard to tell because we don’t directly compare hours, but my sense is that a few of them seem to consistently be grinding on weekends. I think it’s a combo of:

  • Who is willing to take on what work: some are willing to work more so get more work
  • Projects you are staffed on: have been on some good projects but not a demanding sell side yet, which is where I think the weekend work is worst
  • Deal teams you work with: I have worked with great deal teams, which is a combo of my group having good culture in general (nice people) and getting lucky with my initial staffings where I started/continued to work with people who are generally reasonable about work hours
  • Time management throughout the week: the teams I have worked with, including myself, have always pushed to have things done before the weekend, even when it means grinding during weekdays (eating lunch at desk, literally working without a break all day)/a late Friday night
  • Work quality: this one is hardest to measure and one that I think about a lot - why do some people consistently work during the weekends when I don’t? I think it is a combo of the above, but also I’ve noticed that some of the analysts working longer hours are doing so because their work is sloppy so they have to turn more comments. Not saying I’m a top analyst, but I generally get good feedback about my work quality which I think can reduce the need for weekend work.

Besides that, I think it helps that I am honest with my staffer about how much I work on the weekends and in general our group tried to prevent weekend work (comes from the top).

It is really hard to measure how you stack up to other analysts because everyone is so different - I seem to be surviving okay and have gotten good feedback from my teams. Maybe I’m a dumbass though and I’m actually a bottom bucket analyst at bonus time, who tf knows.
