Saw the news on Bloomberg today. I wonder if they'll mandate vaccines considering everyone would be allowed to get one starting May 1st.

I don’t get how some of the banks jumped the gun so early in deciding to do the internship virtual this summer.
Hell yeah, great news. But does anybody know if that means they will be drug testing?

At a bank that hasn't announced its decision yet and really hoping they go the JPM way.

At a group where the Directors and above have said that they won't be coming into the office unless extremely necessary (so like once a month or two). On the other hand, they will require all new joiners to be in the office. Experienced associates can also stay at home if they want.

Risky to think virtual internship means free and easy offer.
My firm didn't give out free offers last time and I believe I will have a better chance if I am in the office. I feel that tertiary factors have a bigger influence when its virtual.
Is this also the case for IB interns @ non-NYC offices?

Nothing official. "Just a source familiar with the matter". This article is very misleading making it sound like JPM and GS are having full in-person summer internships. That was not what was communicated. On the GS end they said they are going to TRY at some point to have some interns come into the office at some point during the summer, bearing the evolving health situation. Most likely same deal with JPM. In my opinion, I would expect the summer to be entirely virtual. Even with the vaccine rollout it is highly unlikely that the capacity for office buildings this summer will be at most 50%. And considering the office is barely at 10% now, I do not think they are going to be able to get all interns and employees in the office by June to run a fully in-person program. In addition, expect communication to be last minute, not sure about JPM but GS was the literally the last bank to announce virtual internship (in May) after kinda saying the same thing that they were unsure about in-person/virtual and they were hoping for in-person. (Obviously in hind sight in-person was never going to happen, but no one had any idea the timeline of the pandemic going through it.
Yes. Incoming interns, depending on the office and division, have already gotten emails confirming that we will be in the office.
We are are already working in the office at our bank, since months ago actually (obviously with restrictions).
And thank God, I would become crazy if I stayed all day between 4 walls without socializing... hopefully other fellow monkeys can hit the desks soon!
