Junior year sa recruiting without experience?

Question

Hello, I am currently a freshman worried about the timeline for recruiting. it looks like recruiting for junior year sa positions starts extremely early, some even winter of sophomore year. I don’t have anything lined up for this summer and am worried that I will not be able to put anything on my resume in time for networking and applying. Any thoughts on how to stand out?

Hey, I'm a sophomore who just went through SA 2021 recruiting. I was a camp counselor my freshman year, and didn't know I wanted to do business, let alone finance, until fall sophomore year, so I wanted to let you know it is possible to do and you will be fine.

If you can't find any internships this summer, work somewhere else, take classes, volunteer, or work on a personal project.

Yeah of course! It differs slightly from person to person and school to school, but in general bank don't start OCR until sophomore second semester. I think around early January after winter break was when I started reaching out to club org alumni I already knew, and early February was when recruiting really kicked off. Some people will start networking before that, but unless you are from a super non-target or have other unique circumstances, I think January is fine.

With COVID, prospects are especially tough now so I’m not sure if this advice will still apply,  but I did secure a structuring junior SA gig without related sophomore experience. My sophomore SA was, however, a desk job and in the general realm of corporate finance.

My advice would be to at least try to secure a corporate role this summer, of some sort.
