"Keep in touch"
So it seems like at the end of every networking phone call or coffee chat, I'm always told to "keep in touch". I always follow up with a nice thank-you email, and something along the lines of "I hope to keep in touch throughout the application process". I assume we both know I'm going to ask them, once I submit my online application, to help push my resume through, but until then, how can I stay in touch? Would they prefer to be left alone until its time for me to ask for their help, or should I reach out every few weeks with a question or interesting article, or something of that nature, so that they don't forget about me? Any insight would be appreciated.
I would say network with people when you find a specific job opening. Wait a day, submit your application and ask to push it through. Imo you shouldn't wait a few weeks and people in IB and basically working and chugging through emails 24/7.
Having said that, I'd be interested in hearing how to subtly ask a network contact to push an application through. I usually assume they aren't willing if they don't bring it up.
