KIMCO Asset Management Internship Exit Opps

Hey Everyone,

I've managed to get a few offers for internships this summer and KIMCO is on the top of my list to accept. As a junior at a fairly well known undergraduate business school, I wanted to know what my exit opps could be in RE after doing an AM internship with KIMCO.

If I love it, I'll totally stay. But I want to eventually get to an elite PERE someday so I thought a brand name such as KIMCO would help get there with an AM junior internship. What do you all think I could exit to after senior year with this type of experience?

Lastly, what is comp and bonus like for AM roles at top REITs?

Not sure about comp, but you are right that the KIMCO name will look great on the resume. It will definitely help you when it comes to full-time recruiting since the name/brand is very recognizable. I would definitely go for it and make sure to have a story about why you want to be in PERE vs AM for interviews in the future.

Seems like you are headed on the right track.

Thank you! I appreciate the input and I'll start framing a good story for that in future interviews.

What do you suggest my prospects would be for full time recruiting? I could always try to transition into acquisitions for full-time at a PERE, but I think I could get myself to a top PERE if I did REIB for 2 years first right?

I'm just trying to think of a game plan for networking for the rest of this year.

Yeah doing REIB would definitely get you to a top tier PERE firm, that's a path many have taken and is consistent. Getting straight into acquisitions with a solid PERE firm would work as well. Really the key to landing any position in real estate is creating a robust network for yourself. So I would focus on on both areas, cast a wide net (early on, as soon as summer starts send out a ton of emails) and you'll find yourself getting interviews where you want them.
