Lazard Middle Market - Reputation?
Looking for anything anyone knows regarding their reputation.. i.e. how large of a prestige stepdown they are than parent co., hours, exit opps, street consensus, etc.
They're alright. There are much better middle market firms out there like William Blair, Harris Williams, Baird, Jefferies and the likes. I know a couple guys who made decent PE exits from Laz MM in Minneapolis (PE firms were also located in Minneapolis)
In terms of prestige step down, you should basically not associate the two together.
Any idea on hours? I've heard sweatshop referenced a few times.
Nope I don't. Did you accept an offer from there? I'd imagine their recruiting process has wrapped up by now.
Not comparable to parent Lazard. Was bought as the former Goldsmith Agio Helms in Minneapolis and has since been expanded to other areas (Chicago, Charlotte, NYC, etc.).
Hours can be heavy. Not Piper bad, but expect 85-95 as an analyst. Comp is street.
There are some MM PE funds that have multiple Lazard guys, mostly based in Minneapolis or Chicago. That's really your exit opp, aside from Corp Dev. Minneapolis is the strongest and largest office still. Industrials is decent and Food & Bev has been doing well the past couple of years.
I don't think they are that far off from Blair and Baird, but certainly closer to a Lincoln.

Out of curiosity, is that actually enforced?
Even for the HC Services and IT group? If so, does that mean they are working 8am to 4am every weekday/night?
Not true. Protected Saturdays. And it's generally not enforced.

I am also interested to find out how possible is it to switch from LMM to Lazard Feres? Say after staying there for a year or two? Is it doable and what's the realistic chance of it?
Again, they are essentially only related in name. It would be incredibly difficult, as it would to move from Lazard MM to any other elite boutique.
Occasionally you will see someone move upstream, but not often real often.
