I'm highly skeptical of any social media consultant that refers to her online writings at a single URL as "my blogs" in the plural.

Agree CaptK

I really hate people who abuse Linkedin. The whole "I will accept all linkedin's" is lame as hell. You don't know these people, you don't have any connection with them, it is just a popularity contest. Evey person I have seen with 5000+ connections are always not that impressive to actually warrant that many contacts.

Is it just me or does the profile pic in the corner look like that little clown from the movie SAW.

HAHA this is great, "Ill just put my info up on this little forum here and get some more people to be a connection on linkedIn blah blah blah," and the poor women gets torn apart. I would feel bad if she didnt deserve it

WOW - These are definitely some interesting 'slams' and 'kudos,' as well as a sincere 'defense,' for my post. I was thinking this new social media site would have more 'professional' and business-like personalities and members. Hmmm...

1) Captain K - Okay - I'm human. So I accidentally left an 's' at the end of blog - I actually do have multiple blogs, but figured that one is really what is the important one. Thank you for being the grammar police.

2) Yes. Mr. Anthony (Neanderthal) - there is a purpose to having that many connections on LinkedIn, and there is a method behind the madness. (a) I like huge numbers of connections because I have a consulting business and wish to be able to directly contact folks for business development for either my own business, or my husband's business, and/or future business endeavors; (b) I have been a recruiter, assist those in career searches as part of my consultancy, and the more folks to whom I am connected, the better for not just me, but for those clients needing connections to those career decision makers (recruiters, headhunters, hiring managers, etc.); and (c) I use connections to obtain answers to complicated questions, and to ask questions seeking answers for SME topics I may not have the answer to at that time. I have been building my SME expertise levels in LinkedIn and have accomplished 88 best answers (versus closest at 27-28 by next closest competition) and use that as a talking point when teaching social media classes.

So yes - there is intrinsic and extrinsic value to having as many connections on LInkedIn as possible.

3) Those who know the power of having connections on LinkedIn, and use it as a networking vehicle, won't scoff at my posting that I do 'accept invitations to join connections.' From this post alone, I have accepted five new invites - the same day as my post! If you are on this 'social media' site, you already understand the power of having network connections - so don't scoff at me, I'm not the one lacking foresight and vision for the entrepreneurial gain.

4) Mr. Happy Pants McGee - thanks for coming to my defense. I'm assuming you wrote this from the kindness of your heart, not in a manner of biting sarcasm?

Thanks for the responses - very interesting forum and readership.

Wow yourself.

First - it is not an isolated mistake, it appears in multiples places on your site. The word you're searching for here is "posts". A blog is a collection of posts. Welcome to the internet.

Second - you clearly have no idea the type of community you're dealing with here if you are surprised at being called out on your spelling and/or grammar.

Third - Agree with Anthony that every single "social media consultant" I've ever met with 1,000s of LinkedIn connections or Twitter followers has been absolutely worthless as far as adding real value. Please watch the below video to understand my feelings for you and your ilk.

I don't think this lady realizes the pool of sharks that this site is: the proper analogy would be that of a hot bikini chick in a locker room trying to promote the local art gallery during the halftime break.

Random Lady with the Glamour Shot from 1985:

The fact that you thought this would go over well clearly demonstrates your lack of understanding about the nature of this site and the people that contribute to its content. I was being sarcastic but you already knew that though I do appreciate you characterizing it as 'biting'.

Having 5000+ contacts on LinkedIn is akin to having a lot of friends on facebook, only worse. Just because someone requests you as a connection doesn't make it a good idea to accept that request. How can you possibly make a case that 5000+ people would a) add any sort of networking value or b) not demonstrate a complete lack of knowledge as to the purpose behind LinkedIn.

The fact that you are getting your PhD from ODU speaks volumes and I sincerely hope you read through the forum extensively before you decide to post something like this, or anything else, ever again.

Finally, is a LinkedIn social media coach what is sounds like? Do you teach people how they should go about utilizing that site to their benefit? Because if thats the case, I think this is the best evidence of the adage 'those that can't do, teach' that I have ever seen.

Have a nice day.

Oh and Glamour Shot lady, ilk is a word, it means 'your kind, people like you' so don't freak shit and say he misspelled like, which is a word I am sure you use frequently whilst twirling your hair.

@ Dawn Boyer

while i think the forum's vitriolic response to your obnoxious self-plug was a bit over the top, i would advise you to take the high road in the future and not sink to their level. unlike you, they are anonymous, and they are mostly just trolling. whereas you have put your professional identity on the line just to bandy insults. especially since you make your living off networking on the internet, and you've just shown your complete inability to turn this situation to your advantage. if you can't handle random trolls on a forum, what makes anyone think that you're worth paying for your online expertise?

i'm not trying to flame you, only to advise you to take a different tack in the future. best wishes.

Ah yes. Funny thing is I'm actually trying to educate her on what this is, and the goal is not to be an ass.
