London to NYC

I was wondering how analysts or associates at any investment bank go about asking to switch to the NYC office from their current office. In my case it would be from London. Are banks usually OK with this sort of thing and are they generous as such that they approve the move? I have always wanted to work in NYC but don’t know how to go about it.

would love to hear as well, looking to switch from SF to NYC (born and raised there and am done with west coast)

Go onto your HR portal and see which internal mobility programs are available. That is how I did it, there was a small program nobody/not many applied for and it involved moving into a certain group in NYC. they usually do this via the L visa. there are requirements like minimum years spent at the firm/role, etc but you can see that online. If you don't have that I'd both network with team members in the destination, and explore options with your own team

There is apparently a lot of interest in this topic, maybe because the year is drawing to a close and people want to make changes.
Several posts are focusing on internal mobility, I have seen at least three of these in the last week. Read through them and also use the search function.

- HR portals are your best bet for internal transfers, there are rotational programs, secondments, internal mobility, etc
- Network with people in your target destination, understand how others walked this path and try to speak with these colleagues
- Be flexible about timing, location, and requirements; not everything is perfect when you move to another country
- There are always many avenues to reach your goals; consider those as well.

Not to turn people away from WSO, but this particular question is not necessarily linked to high finance. There are much better sources than this board wrt to /IWantOut.

Best of luck.

everyone is realizing europeans pay dogshit slave wages compared to their US counterparts. if i was a london banker or god forbid a continental banker i would go on strike because of poverty wage

What these posts show is that we have reached the third stage of grief: "bargaining"

Next step is realising immigrating to the US is mission impossible especially in this macro environment: "depression"

Finally they will realise the whole continent has been spiralling downward since WWI and that there is no end in sight: "acceptance"

But "muh healthcare", "muh fat people", "muh school shootings", they will smugly say, not realising these issues do not apply to anyone in banking/consulting/PE and never will
