Looking for career advice breaking in
I recently graduated from a Top 50 public university with degrees in Economics and Math. Background is heavily quantitative, including extensive research experience and significant coursework in econometrics. Programming skills are decent.
After graduation I took what savings I have and moved to NYC to look for a trading/research position at a quantitative hedge fund. I've had a grand total of 4 interviews since I came here (Citadel/DRW/etc), but no offers yet. I was typically competing against PhDs and only made it to the final round for one of them.
Now I'm running out of savings, and I'm in sort of an odd place: underqualified for quant positions and overspecialized for IB/PE/standard entry-points. Any tips before I start setting up my cardboard box by Times Square?
