Low GPA - Starting salary
If I have a low GPA, 2.5 from a top-tier, school, in financial economics what kind of jobs an starting salary would I be looking at?

Experience (Internships)> GPA

100% agree on internships experience > pretty much everything else
I for one could not care less about GPA if the person is able to show raw intelligence plus activity outside the school.
Do you have internship experience or anything extracurricular? These define your possibilities in my opinion. But if you have smoked weed throughout college and have nothing to show on your CV, you're fucked.
There are certainly the top jobs where you will be unable to get interviews with. But if you network hard and have a good story about what you did/have been involved in/etc that can somewhat explain away your low gpa and make you seem competent, then things can still work out for you. You just are going to have to put in a lot of legwork to get the interviews. That's really going to be the biggest hurdle for you. But once you get those interviews you can perform well enough that they will completely forget about that gpa.
I'm going to guess that you're a veteran, you attend Columbia and you're in GS.
Network with vets at the major banks and have a good story as to why you have a low GPA.
A quick story of my school career...I had to leave high school after the 9th grade because of family issue. After that I worked construction until I was a site manager. I also worked as an assistant manager in the hospitality industry. I decide to go back to school and when I did go to college I received 3.95 while completing 60 credits in 17 months. When I transitioned into University I had some personal issues to deal with and could not focus on my school work. Now I'm here and I know even if I get strait A from here on I will not have a decent GPA when I'm done. Although I have been doing personal investing in the stock market (online account) for the past year making an average of 50% returns in the past 3 years.
no job, consider going back to school in a finance program (or luckily network your way in). There are bad GPAs, and then there is the 2.5s. lets face it, there are not many bankers on wallstreet that graduated with a 2.5 and there is a big reason as to why.
Its a long shot but u can network a lot to land some interviews. If u impress them with ur skills u may get a job.

Looking abroad isn't a terrible idea, but also be sure to exhaust any and all connections domestically first. You never know.
Why are you looking abroad? Wow you gave up extremely fast... you can get a job with a 2.5... keep networking and try staffing firms.
