MF PE vs Hedge Fund Comp

So I have a question. I know that both PE and HF are coveted exit opps in IB. But I wanted to know what the comp structure is like at both. It’s pretty easy to find MF PE salaries and bonus info, but it’s hard to find comp for HF. Who would make more?

I understand that people keep asking this but it’s impossible to give an answer on this. HF comp is extremely volatile, within a firm and definitely across firms. You just can’t compare these, they both make a ton and at the senior levels it’s all based on fund performance.

The question is why do you ask? I definitely wouldn’t decide a career path off of this.

I definitely get that they’re more variable (might be why it’s so hard to hunt down the data haha) but I just wanted to know the general GIST of it, because I know at the senior levels it’s all about who makes the most rain, but at the junior levels who would make more? A first year associate at KKR or a first year associate at a comparable size hedge fund?
