Moving from internal Ops consulting to Corporate Strategy/Business Development
I am looking for some advice and/or help to move to a corporate strategy/business development role. Currently I am in one of the top credit card companies (think Amex, Discover, Capital One etc.) working as an internal operations consultant for the backoffice. Current responsibilities include preparing business cases for cost saving measures, developing metrics and ways to measure them, and occasionally leading the change as a project manager.
A little bit of educational and professional background: I graduated from a top 20 school with two bachelors in Electrical and Computer Engineering and Economics (did it in 3 years, final gpa 3.7). I am also CIMA-qualified (UK management accounting qualification). I used to work at a IB BB for 1.5 years before my current role where I have been for about 1+ year.
I want to eventually end up in some sort of corporate strategy/business development role. How should I go about doing so? I know B-school is one route but I am hoping not to take that route because of the loss of income for that time period. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Looking forward to hearing other people's opinions!
