Moving from SIG ER to HF (equity)

Hey guys, I have recently received an offer from SIG in their equity research division. In a few years I would like to move to a good HF (between $1B-$10B). Specifically looking at L/S, fundamental value, etc. Is this realistic? How is SIG ER with regards to placement? Does it matter whether it is BB ER or boutique ER? Also, moving from ER to HF I hear is more about having good, actionable ideas (vs IB where it is a standardized process with headhunters). Can anyone shed some light on this?

From a general point of view and from what I have experienced personally, no it doesn't entirely matter what bank name is on your resume. The more important factors are:

1) what is your coverage universe/industry? 2) who is the senior analyst you will be under?

Plenty of extraordinary analysts out there working at no-name boutiques or otherwise weak MM banks.

Does brand name help? Sure, but it's not the sole thing that will get you to the buy-side.
