Moving the city, from France to London in IBD as a graduate student
Hello, I'm enrolled in Grande Ecole track in the best French b-school doing my off-cycle internship.
I'm trying to move to London as soon as I graduate, but as the things work differently here in France and in London, I'm quite lost with what I should/can do,
I am aware of the fact that most of the full time offers in IBD come from summer internship, but unfortunately I'm not even eligible for an SA position as I'll be an ultimate year student (Maybe in some banks they do accept the final year students)
Would it be better or do I even have a chance to get a direct full time offer by directly applying?
I've done one year of internships, which includes 6 months in IBD in one of the French investment banks (Before I've done internal strategy so not quite IBD). I don't know if it'd be enough to directly apply for a full time offer. Technically, I have more experience than someone who did 10 weeks of summer, but I guess that most of the senior bankers would prefer some who they've already seen.
Waiting for some smart and strategic insights, thank you!
Apply for SA/off-cycles at banks not FT. If you never worked in London they'll want you as an intern before you can apply anywhere for FT roles.
Thanks for the reply! But the issue is that I am not sure if I'd be qualified for a SA tho, as it's mostly for the penultimate year students...but I do understand that they'd want to see how I am before take me as FT role
Some take final years, this is where reaching out to HR/analysts may be relevant and ask the right questions.
On top of my head: CS/DB/JPM don't take final years and UBS/BAML/EBs/GS/MS take final years
Would it be the same even if I apply for the similar job position(dcm related), just because I haven't worked in London? Thanks for your reply !
CS definitely take final years - know someone going there for internship post-graduation.
MS and GS also take final years to add to your list.
Do they for SA? They used not to as they had an Autumn internship dedicated for these. Wasn't 100% sure for GS/MS so will add them cheers for confirming.
Sorry, I misunderstood. I was talking about the autumn internship for CS - thought you meant they don't take final year interns at all.
So you'd also suggest me to apply for a summer rather than an off-cycle position or a FT? I just have 0 clue about how things work in the UK, seems like everything is so different compared to the Frenchies.
