Networking for FT recruiting during SA internship?

I'm currently doing an IBD summer analyst internship, but am pretty unhappy with the group/location/brand, and want to do FT recruiting at other banks. Obviously, getting the return offer at my current shop is paramount, especially given how few FT spots there are nowadays. However, what are the best practices for networking for FT recruiting if one is still determined to do so?

When would be the best time to start reaching out?

How should I approach the subject during conversations?

Should I focus on networking with people I already know from SA recruiting, or should I also try to develop new contacts as well?

What banks/groups are usually more open to FT recruiting?

What's the general timeframe/process for FT IBD recruiting nowadays?

How similar/different are FT ibd interviews to SA interviews?

How do I network discretely without my current bank finding out?

Any other tips/tricks?

One major caveat for my case is that my internship isn't located in a major financial hub city (not NYC/SF/LA/Chicago/Boston/Houston) which makes in-person networking with other banks impossible for me during this summer.
