No IB offers for 2022 SA recruiting season

Coming from a target (Ivy League) with high GPA(3.8+). I've had a few 2022 summer analyst Superdays/interviews at BB's and EB's but haven't been able to convert an offer yet. I have a few apps at reputable banks still open/pending (Barclays, BofA, UBS, Deutsche, etc) but I'm guessing it's a bad sign that it's mid-August and I haven't heard back yet about progressing the application.

What should the next steps be if I still want to get into a reputable IB shop? Am I basically fucked?

Apply to S&T and AM positions. Look for backoffice roles that happen in the fall as well. I know people who get into IB thru FT interviews. All hope isnt lost but try to secure something. BLK also has apps open.

I've definitely been applying to everything and anything recently, including IB roles at less-reputable, regional banks, in the past few days. I'll keep an eye out for S&T and AM positions though! Would there be any applications for those at 'reputable' banks opening in the fall or would they be for mainly regional banks? I've been focusing on IB so I'm not too familiar with the timeline for backoffice roles.

Also, is it too late for my outstanding applications and are they basically doomed for rejection then?

No, I don't think it's too late. I know at least at my school (also Ivy), there aren't any Barclays super days until late August/Early fall. I'm sure it's similar at other banks as well. For Barclays specifically I think the furthest the process has gotten for anyone (excluding early admits for diversity etc.) is a HireVue/online exam stage. One thing that can definitely help you at this point is to network as much as possible. If you're at an Ivy, then there's definitely a team for your school that vets candidates. You should try to talk to as many of them as possible. They're the ones that can push your resume. Just make sure to express that you've gotten interest from ___ banks, but their bank is your #1 option because ____.

Edit: stressing importance of networking here; if you haven’t at least gotten in touch with your school’s team, then your likelihood of moving on is very very slim.

I'm not international and I've gotten good feedback from interviewers/peers/mentors about my background and interviewing skills. I'd say if anything, my major weaknesses are my technicals and not networking enough? Interestingly though, the firms where I've gotten the closest to landing an offer were at places where I didn't do much networking.

I'm guessing it's too late to go directly into IB at this point? I have a feeling that my pending apps are going to be rejects

I think you should make sure not to miss any more technicals, it just shows your interviewers you are not really determined to get the job

That does give me hope! What was your timeline like in terms of first-rounds/Superdays?

My plan now is to keep applying to places and pushing forward; not sure what else there is to do.

Definitely still time, try doubling down on your networking and technical studying. You're in a really solid spot, hope isn't lost yet!

I was in your spot 3 years ago when I recruited. Did really well at the behaviorals but I didn’t stress technicals or networking until too late. I ended up turning a minor into a second major and re-recruiting. It worked out well for me – at a mid BB now. Figured I’d recruit again since I had decent experience/GPA and just focus on dialing in technicals/networking, and if it didn’t work out find a FT job. Ended up getting an SA offer in May the summer before the internship.

Wow, I've been hearing of banks recruiting later than August, but didn't realize that there were banks still recruiting in May before the summer! Thanks for telling me your story; this is my first real recruiting/job-searching cycle and I've definitely made similar mistakes. I've made very good impressions with people at a few firms but nevertheless, no offers yet. I guess the best thing for me now is to learn from my experiences, keep moving forward and hope for the best. Thanks again
