Non-Target + almost no experience 27yo MBA Worth it ?
Hi boys, here I need your insights. I'm kinda lost to honest and need your wisdom.
My situation
French, 27yo. I got a Master degree in Audit/Finance. Worked 6 months at PwC as a back office auditor. I got a small brick and mortar grocery store with 2 friends, that doesn't pay us. It's an unique experience, lot of risks and my accounting skills exploded, but it's not my field and I don't see me doing it for the rest of my life.
Why I suck
I want that corpo life, feeling the pressure. But it seems I'll have hard time to get into. Why:
-
It seems most Analyst role are in US, mostly NYC. Fewer are in Europe, and most of them in London, my initial plan was to search only in Luxembourg but I'm starting to think I can't restrict my research that much.
-
Almost no experience. 6months at PricewaterhouseCoopers and 6+ months in my own company is getting me nowhere. Lot of candidates already have done 1 year + in relevant field.
-
Non-Target School. My school is not a big name, it's not in my favor.
I'm passionnate about valuation, understanding companies, I read about it, I do valuation for my own portfolio or just to test my skills. It's my thing. But let's be honest, I am weak candidate. My question is: What would you do if you were me ?
What I plan to do
Right now I'm thinking about:
-
Widening my geographical research in Europe. (Or maybe even try NYC ? Someone already did it ? Maybe are Europe/French candidates well received ?)
-
Start looking for an MBA at a top name school. Is it worth it ?
-
Keep applying and in parallelle keep learning and practicing to meet and, impress by my technical skills as an Entry Level candidate.
I am sorry in advance if my post seem redundant with others, or if my questions are naive/childish but I need to act. Another point of view from more experienced people could accelerate things and help me take the right decision. Don't hesitate to give your opinion, every bit of insight is appreciated. Thank you in advance for your time.
Yeah a top MBA would definitely be worth it, but it doesn’t sound like you’d get in.
You need some more glowing work experience that shows leadership potential. Also, you didn’t state if you have a good uGPA. You’d likely have to slaughter the GRE/GMAT.
