Non-Target best option

Just joined the forum! I attend a non-target school and didn't get any offers for Investment banking. What's the next best option?? Interned with Morgan Stanley for wealth management. Right now leaning towards sticking with wealth management or doing consulting. Will be graduating in May, I am getting a late start due to being in season for a sport.

You should network with alumni that are in each field and see what you'd enjoy most. Even though you're from a non-target it's possible you'll have even a few people from each field who would be willing to help you. Otherwise, look up some companies in your area and cold email employees from those companies. Make sure you look up on here how to do it appropriately.

If you're not getting any bites, it could be for a variety of reasons. Make sure you spruce up your resume as much as possible. Being a WM intern and playing a sport will help so milk that. Other than that, figure out which career aligns with your skill set and interests and network your ass off. Join the alumni group for your school on LinkedIn for starters.

Good luck!

In what fields would you recommend? I have passed cfa level 1 if that helps at all. I have a lot of connections from my sport is why I was thinking wealth management. Love working with investments and feel like going the F500 route isn't for me. Thanks for the help BDWK

It's hard to give a straight answer. It depends on where you want to be when you're older. What's your dream job? Consulting is a great way to gain exposure to real-world business problems and sets you up to get into an MBA program if that's a goal of yours.

Wealth Management has more of a focus on finance and would be better if you see yourself being a Portfolio/Fund Manager. Not sure how they place into b-school but probably not as well as consulting.

CFA Level 1 will definitely help. Continue to pursue that charter because CFA's are favored a lot in this economy. Anything that helps you gain an edge is beneficial in this process.
