Non Target University: Starting a High Finance / Wall Street / IB Development Program
Hi all,
So I am currently a junior at a non-target university and unfortunately we do not have any sort of program that aids those interested in pursuing careers in high finance. We are heavily invested in O&G and if you ask any of the top students or professors here, the ideal job after graduation is working for Big Oil.
The only thing we have remotely related to high finance is a trip to Wall Street our business school goes on every summer where 90% of the students partaking really don't have the slightest interest in the banks we visit but are just in it for the 3 credit hours.
I believe that I am in a solid position to where I can shift the spotlight to high finance and this has become a goal of mine to accomplish before I graduate.
What I am trying to do is gather a list of schools that have these high finance programs and reach out to their leaders/past members and find out how they were able succeed in getting their students to Wall Street.
If you or someone you know was a part of such a program during UG and would be willing to help me out in a sort of way I would really appreciate it! PM me if you’re interested!
I seriously love my school and what better way to give back then to start something that can help others like me for years to come!
Thanks y'all and stay classy

I'm the president of the investment banking club at my school (relative nontarget / semitarget). One of the best things you can do is to find some of your peers who are interested in helping you start a club. It's quite a bit of work.
After that, speak with whoever's responsible for the school clubs, and get your club formally recognized.
Then find some seniors who interned in IB and will be going into the field full-time and ask if they would be willing to speak or do a panel or whatever. It's important to have some legitimacy.
Some basic events would be helpful - telling kids what investment banking is, how to network effectively, the recruiting process, etc. You have a lot of options
dude stop saying 'high finance'
