Part Time MBA Break Into IB
Needed some advice on how to break into IB with MBA. I am 24 years old. I graduated with a degree in finance from non target. My current position is in external reporting for a fortune 100 financial services company.
Will obtaining my MBA part time from NYU allow me to break in? Do I need still need prior banking experience? I need advice on which route I should take, and what I should be doing to get there.
Thank you for any help.
You don’t need prior banking experience, but you most likely need a full-time MBA. It is possible to break in from a part-time program, but very uncommon (I know of one guy from Booth who did it).
OP give this a read on Mergers and Inquisitions:

Definitely possible.
p.s. sorry can't post the full link as I don't have enough points yet.
Doable but def harder
I got into IB from a part time program along with a few other ppl from my class, but all of us had done or were doing corp development related work
Yea I have definitely seen it a lot more in energy banking in Houston (where I have gathered you are working as well). Part-time programs at Rice and McCombs still place people in banking every year.
It is a lot less common in NY from a part-time program like NYU.
