PE Recruiting from an EB without interning at that firm

I interned at a consulting firm in a different city from where I am going to be working FT in IB (nyc). With PE recruiting starting so early, will it still be possible to recruit as a first year analyst even if I did not summer in IB? Unfortunately don't have much of a network in PE coming from a non-target with limited alums at the top firms. How do I get invited/set up "coffee chats"/ are they imperative to do in May/June in order to increase my chances during on-cycle? I'll be at a bank that typical places well in MF/UMM (pjt,mc,evr, cvp)
