Protein Shake as a meal
Looking for something to substitute breakfast/get good protein after a workout. Never done it before but bought an overpriced shake recently and really liked it (Strawberry, banana and vanilla? protein powder) pretty sweet tbh but something that doesn't taste like crap and has good nutrients would be nice.
Open to all recommendations, but no offense @GoldenCinderblock" not quite ready for the compost juice yet.
Do you have a Smoothie King close by? Big fan of theirs
Nope, located in SF atm, they seem like a midwest brand? What's good about them? Was thinking about buying frozen fruit and a blender rather than buying from a store everyday.
Smoothie King in my experience is quite addictive because of their high sugar content, plus it is also delicious. I used to have one every day until i bought a blender.
A protein shake with two scoops is only like 240 calories. If you want a meal replacement make a smoothie with greek yogurt, protein, a banana, chia seeds and optional peanut butter / oats. It's healthy and filling.
Is my breakfast indeed! I find it incredibly energising
Soylent has been keeping me alive, although while it's not disgusting, it tastes like the color beige. It comes in a powder that could probably be blended to be more interesting.
Soylent Cacao tastes pretty solid, reminds me of chocolate milk/those chocolate jello things
Been drinking Soylent for three years. 400 perfectly balanced Macros / Micros / Minerals and it tastes good. They ship it to your doorstep. I'll probably drink them for the rest of my life.

I do this daily for breakfast and it gets me through to lunch:
I blend it up and it makes six servings at a time. I distribute them evenly into six mason jars, and then add water or almond milk until the jars are full. Altogether, it comes out to just over 400 calories, but it gets me a good amount of protein, caffeine, creatine, and potassium, and I'm feeling great all day after - like the best parts of bullet coffee and a protein shake. Give it a try, I think you'll like it, too.
Do you buy or make the cold brew?
I make it myself, but you can buy it if you don't have the time. It's super easy, you just load coffee in a container and let it sit for 12+ hours, then remove the grounds.
Is there anyway I can sub the coffee for strawberries or some other fruit? This looks great though thanks for the recipe.
Sure, it would probably taste fine. I use the coffee for a little caffeine boost.
Creatine? Where do you get your steroids from?
Creatine is legal my dude.
Wait do you bring the 6 mason jars with you to work?
Nah, keep them in my fridge. Drink them right before work.
morning favorite for me:
-4oz espresso -MCT oil (coconut) -Grass fed butter -Bulletproof Chocolate Collagen Protein -Vega All in One Chocolate -Dark Chocolate Almond Milk -Touch of cinnamon
shakes: -Any berry + peanut butter + Vega all in one has been my latest trend
My favorite combo is strawberry + banana + lots and lots of peanut butter ... plus the Vega and anything else lying around (add dark leafy greens if you can - I like to add spinach or kale if I have it).
Huel.
Do you want to be malnourished? Breakfast is importanter. Protein shake is very healthy but it shouldn't be a substitute.

Not a huge fan of shakes, but take a look at Redcon 1's MRE product. I got a few samples that I've tried out and it tasted OK with a pretty solid macro profile and interesting ingredients.
You should seriously not put the words GoldenCinderblock and "compost juice" in the same sentence
I throw oatmeal and bannana in if I'm on calls or whatever. Sometimes some peanut butter too.
Mass gainer
Blend the following. -Oats -Banana -Peanut butter -Whey protein -Milk
It's like a home-made mass gainer.
I work out down some BCAA, multi vitamin and then a protein shake followed by a fiber supplement and coffee. I would say I get about 3-4 hours until I get hungry. Before I leave I pack up a bag of nuts and jerky to snack on when I get to work.
In SF myself. Definitely hit up Elixiria. Their selection and quality are best I've come across, and the combos are a great inspiration for a more unique diy. Native Co is another spot if you want solid smoothies ("Popeye on Vaca in Thailand" is their rockstar).
I'm with you on Elixiria. The liver detox is my best friend ;) Never been to Native Co, but interested in giving it a shot. Thanks for the tip.
My pleasure. Cheers.
Thanks, definitely will stop by, do you get the superfood smoothies or the shakes?
When I'm running to work, time permitting, I'll grab one of their juice shots. Post gym, I do smoothies (Body Builder & Forever 16 mostly) but only because I'm not a fan of cashews which, regrettably, are the primary ingredient in their shakes. 100% personal preference.
Update, tried Elixiria, Acai bowl and the Lymphomaniac? The acai bowl was decent, typical... maybe slightly above average as acai bowls go. The lymphomaniac (idk if this is by design) tasted like ginger, so I'll have to pass on that one going forward but I'll give the others a shake and let you guys know. Thanks again!
I prefer a very high fat / moderate protein / zero carb shake:
If I'm pressed for time I'll skip the cacao butter and just throw it all in a shaker bottle.
looks good
Yeah I like fat intake for energy too.
today added dark chocolate Godiva with sea salt ... melted into it
whaaaaaaat
gimme those caloriessssss
Not Herbalife - Bill Ackman
I take Serious Mass ( has 1250 calories + 50 grams of protein) I mix 2 scoops with 750ml of milk (water tastes like s**t but if you have a sensitive stomach just go with the water). I take this 2 times a day.
I also take enough BCAA's to kill a small horse, creatine, glutamine and other stuff but just a shake could do it.
I would recommend the Grande BCAA's they have a 8:1:1 ratio
Are you mainly a lifter / bodybuilder?
I’d recommend throwing in some Vega products with that as well to add in some micronutrients. Seems really heavy on the macros. Also, it will shift some of your protein sources to plant protein.
Also, since that mix is partially derived from eggs, you might consider just cracking a few raw eggs in your shake as well to go to the source for some fresh ingredients. I’ll mix raw chicken eggs with Vega and water sometimes (I’m so hungry I don’t even blend at times, I just shake it and chug it). I think quail eggs pack more of a punch and are great to throw in raw as well, but just are so tiny and tedious to crack like 10 of those mofos in a row...
Every morning I make a shake of:
Half scoop of protein powder 1 tbsp peanut butter 1 1/2 cup of milk 1 tbsp oats
If you don't want to drink a shake because it tastes bad, get over it. You don't edit powerpoints all day because it's fun, you do it because it's for the bigger picture.
No need to add all this unnecessary bs man, and be mindful that a shake will never be a “meal replacer” but for a quick grab and go get 1) isolate protein (GNC, golds is great) 2) skim milk 3) banana 4) 1 cup of oatmeal with cinnamon ( if you’re okay with the sugar, grab the Quaker Oats packets)
Usually drink a shake with 400 ml milk, 2 scoops powdered oats and 1 scoop protein in the morning. Sorts me out till afternoon just about.
