So I received a summer internship with BOA. I'm wondering can I still apply for a spring internship with Merrill Lynch WM? If so, should I mention my offer in the cover letter?

Shouldn't be a problem. And yes you can put incoming WM intern at ML on your CV or cover letter. Just make sure you make it clear its only for the spring semester and you can't continue on in the summer if you do get an offer to join.

I agree that it shouldn't be a problem to apply. As far as including it in your CL I don't think it matters much either way, though if you choose to put it in be sure not to sound arrogant.
If you include it and/or they ask you about what you're doing for the summer just be ready to say something like "I only have so much time to test out different industries during undergrad" (or something better worded).
Thanks, this is the answer I was looking for. Do you think that they'll question why I'm looking into different industries? I mean does it look bad since I don't really have my mind made up on what I want to do.
They might be curious just as a talking point, but it certainly doesn't look bad. They might give you a differently phrased question in your interview(s) if you've mentioned the SA position in your CL. The difference I would expect would be something like this:
(with) "So, I read that you're doing an IB(?) internship this summer, what makes you want to do a PWM internship as well?" in which case your answer will be the easy "PWM has a lot of attractive aspects as well such as XYZ and I don't know what I want to do yet..."
(without) "Why do you want to do PWM?"
Truth is these off-cycle PWM internships are usually really laid-back guys and since you probably go to a good school, they just enjoy your company and the free/cheap labor. I highly doubt they expect you to consider going FT with them unless you explicitly say so.
