Recommendations for Advanced Excel for Finance
I am a relatively competent coder soon to be working at an agri-focused PE firm.
Already have TTS, but what are some good books teaching more complex financial modelling tools in Excel such as Monte Carlo, Black Scholes, etc...
Also, this is my first finance-type job. Do people just not use Excel for things like this?
Depends what type of role you are entering.
If you're going in as an analyst, rule of thumb is to only use code if you absolutely must, otherwise don't. It just over-complicates models and there is a 99.99% chance that as soon as someone senior to you opens up the spreadsheet they will move some cells and fuck it all up anyway.
I am going in as an analyst and wholeheartedly agree with you regarding avoiding VBA.
This is more for my own personal development, than the role.
Financial Modeling Fourth Edition by Simon Benniga. Light on corp valuation but heavy on portfolio modeling, SML, black-scholes, monte carlo, derivatives, bonds etc. Includes a lot of VBA code and ready made models that you can tweak for personal use.

PDF of the book posted above if you're not allowed to spread this stuff then can an admin delete
If you're a competent coder, run it through R or Python (how I run a lot of this type stuff, anyway)
then communicate it via Powerpoint...
