REIB in NYC?
I'm curious as to how many boutique (or just non-BB banks) REIB firms there are in NYC. Obviously HFF just bought Hentschel to propel their HFF Securities team, but I don't know of many others. There are shops that market themselves as REIB, but don't actually perform IB work. For example, I interviewed a while back with a shop called BlueGate Partners, but it turned out they were essentially just a boutique investment sales shop.
If anyone knows of other REIB firms, I'd appreciate some input.
bump, interested in this as well

It’s BB or bust for REIB. Everything else is brokerage or capital raising with the slight chance you’ll see an M&A deal
Also think stifel does some reibz
Eastdil Secured via Wells Fargo Securities
Brookfield Financial
Marty Cicco at Evercore worked on Colony Northstar deal so you can probably throw them into the mix. Moelis gets a healthy dose of RE mandates too.
I mean... I think Eastdil is the big one.
There's tons of small shops in NYC. There's others elsewhere but I have no clue how they do any business... you're better off being a boutique broker outside of NYC.
I would add Hodes Weill & Associates into the mix
Hodes Weill almost exclusively raises money for PE funds. So sure include them if that’s what you want to do
1) Brookfield Financial: These guys are somewhere in between traditional REIB and brokerage. They do M&A advisory, as well as corporate level capital raising (debt & equity), but also work on portfolio and single asset-level deals (raising JV equity, soliciting debt, selling a loan).
2) The CenterCap Group: As far as I can tell, this is true REIB. Senior management formed the group after holding leadership roles at Lehman, Barclays, CBRE GI, and ARC. Their big issue seems to be deal flow. Although senior management has worked on numerous high profile deals, very few have been done under the CenterCap flag. The only one I've seen (which isn't terribly high profile) is advising Axar Capital on their investment into Terra Capital Partners, a middle market mezz lender.
From Experience - banks that I've seen on my REIB deals before
Eastdil Securities (Wells Fargo), KeyBanc Capital Markets (Big REIB Team), Jefferies, Guggenheim Partners, Moelis
I know for a fact Jefferies was just looking to build out a REIB presence in NY
REIB NYC or Regional office (Originally Posted: 12/11/2009)
I have an offer for REIB in NYC or at a regional office on the east coast. Which is better in terms of exit ops? I am thinking about PERE but dont know what cities have the most PERE firms. Are there any other big exit ops for real estate banking?
Thanks.
