REPE Acquisitions

Curious as to how hard it is to get into REPE Acquisitions. What do they typically look for at the analyst level? There are a few people from my current company that are now at one of the large firms in my market, although all are in AM. Is hiring usually on an as-need basis or do these firms typically have a structured analyst program?

What is the day to day like? Are analysts/associates expected to travel to visit acquisition targets or meetings?

Most firms want someone with a year or 2 of CRE experience, whether that's in brokerage, or smaller operators. Day-to-day varies, you need to know the numbers/technical analysis, communication internally and externally, presentation, writing, etc. You could be on a DD trip in Phoenix and have to stop what you are doing, and pull over to the side of the road to fix a waterfall model for a deal in Charlotte. Later that night you'll be getting drinks with brokers taking mental notes on potential new deals or recent off market trades.
