Let me add my 2 cents:

  • AlixPartners does NOT recruit into their Rx group without at least ~5 years minimum relevant work experience
  • I wouldn't say there are any "target schools" in the Rx industry, because it's something that is not taught in undergraduate programs. I say this because restructuring is a complex field that requires a strong understanding of financial fundamentals, ability to make strategic decisions for a business under very tense conditions and in a very rapid timeframe, general understanding of various legal areas and a high level of psychology (emotional intelligence and being able to see the viewpoints of all counterparties).
  • I recommend joining the Turnaround Management Association (believe there's a free membership for students), where you are able to attend many networking events and industry-specific educational events.
  • It's generally very difficult to go directly into Rx consulting out of undergrad considering no prior professional work experience (which is why only a few are able to at select firms like A&M or FTI). Networking goes a long way in this niche industry where if you join a professional association and are active with attendance and meeting people from different backgrounds/firms, your probability of landing a job increases substantially.
