San Fran meetup

Andy, can you advise on a meetup in san fran?

I'm doing an interview on wednesday but will be in the area from 10/4-10/11 and wanted to see if anyone wanted to meet up. i'm staying with a friend who recently relocated there and he works for a tech firm.

I would be down for an SF meetup if actual professionals show up. I've been to two and they've been crazy awkward. It wasn't even a Haas-auge fest like I thought it would be (which would have actually been preferable), they were a bunch of random lurkers who barely even read the site. Someone asked me what Investment Banking was, another asked me what my bank (well-known on the boards) did. There were a couple legit people there, but they seemed as off-put as I was. Definitely think there's quite a bit to go before SF can get to NY or Boston's level.

Also, some place that's standing room or has high stools will probably facilitate a better happy hour. Sitting around a table is totally sub-optimal for a mixer type of event.

Just some thoughts.

Richie - are you in SF now? I recall you living in Europe. I have to agree with your assessment... not the same hustle here. I would love to set one up but right now my travel schedule is extremely demanding so I am unable to commit to it until January. I may however start a thread to garner attention/interest and we could go from there. But truthfully, I don't have an evening to give to lurkers...

I also know of a woman here that does IR for a PE fund and she runs SF Happy Hours for professionals, she is interested in doing something as well. She mentioned the best way to get it going is to offer it as an event. I would be happy to offer an evening to individuals looking for advice and help that have a sincere interest in breaking in.

Wish we could have set that up while I was there. I will be returning soon, perhaps January. I will be sure to work on it prior to.

Would be interested as well. Agree with Richie, though - if 80+% of attendees don't work in the industry (or intern even...), the whole thing turns into a banking info-session without the free food.

Just putting it out there: Rickhouse? Great drinks, convenient location.
