Second attempt at MBB Interviews
I had to leave my PE role in the USA almost a year ago because of a visa issue. I am a wharton / columbia MBA graduate. I had interviewed with a regional office of an MBB and had made it to the final round in September but was not extended an offer. Few months on, my other PE processes have dried up given the current situation, and I am thinking of trying for MBB again. Can I interview with the same MBB again but for a different regional office? I am going to reach out to a couple of alums of the MBB in the regional office that I am interested in. Should I mention my initial email that I had interviewed 8 months ago but was not extended an offer? how do I position myself? really confused here and need to be open about things as I am not sure how long will the current situation persist.
You should def mention that you interviewed earlier, even if it was for a different office. Did you interview at all the MBB, if not, I'd recommend prioritizing the ones you did not interview at. 8th month is a very short period. It's going to be difficult for you to get an interview at the same firm.
"Positioning" is super important for candidates from industry, and I don't see a very strong value prop here.
Hiring is not a priority for any firm right now. I'd recommend to lay low, spend more time in your PE role, may another 6-8 months and then start reaching out. By that time hopefully the impact of COVID is more visible, and firms are more receptive of networking/ coffee chats and have a clear estimate of hiring needs.
Also a larger questions is are you sure you want to go back to consulting? MBB salaries in Europe are not that great.
