Second week on the job but feeling burned out. Is this normal?
I just completed my second week of IB training and when Friday hit I just felt so tired. Today, all I did was nothing. Didn't feel like I had any energy to go meet with friends or go do anything. I've been doing training this week plus studying for the regulatory exams. Is it normal to be feeling tired like this on the weekend or is it just because my body hasn't had such a long week in a very long time? My last semester of college was pretty relaxed. I can't remember the last time I've worked hard in a very long time. Should I just wait for my body to adjust and is this something I shouldn't be worried about?
Completely normal. Adapting to a new environment takes time. Also, lowering your expectations on how much energy you think you should have helps too..
Thank you! This is reassuring.
I say about 9 months, but any additionall guidance on how long you think it should take to get adjusted?
Like 3 weeks. After a couple of very late nights, moderately late nights don't phase you as much.
One other point -- those trainings are exhausting. They tend to be at least moderately boring, and they tend to feed you too much.. Once you hit the desk, you'll be amazed at how powerful adrenaline is. When you're under the gun, you won't notice being tired.
If you’re tired from training/studying likely until midnight the latest, I may have some bad news for ya bud.
It gets worse. You get used to it though.
Don't worry, you get used to it. Just takes some time - positive attitude is key!
it's just anxiety, man. it's emotionally exhausting being thrown into multiple new experiences at once. once you start normalizing to the environment, you'll turn on the cruise congtrol.
For me that feeling lasted the first 4 or so weeks as an analyst but the up and down gets much easier over time. I've found you pretty quickly get used to a new level of intensity when it fluctuates. If you've been relatively lightly staffed for a while and then a big workload hits, it feels like the world is ending for 2-3 days and then pretty soon it feels normal. Even after 5+ years big upticks in workload take bit to get used to
Training is so goddamn boring that it's extremely exhausting.
