sending 'happy holiday' emails to future colleagues (will start FT next year)
will this be seen as trying too hard to kiss ass?

I would only send these to people you've interviewed/networked with. I'm hoping that's what you meant...
only send e-cards with animated gifs otherwise you will come off insincere
Happy Holiday e-mails? That's a big no-no in the financial world.
I would suggest sending a dozen roses to the people that you networked with and sending a pack of Camel cigarettes to your future co-workers. Also send a picture of yourself to your future MD so he can put it on his desk to be constantly reminded of how hard of a worker you will be.
If some ass kisser sent me a pack of cigs, I'd forgive him for the rest of the crap and there'd be no net gain or loss of respect
exactly.
Yea, I'm not even sure I'd send them a Happy Holidays email. If anything, send them an email just to keep up with them, and maybe include somewhere, "I hope the end of year holidays treat you well!" Though they might think you're a douche if they're pulling an all nighter and get a message like that at 10am
Are you gay?
No he is just grateful and naive
Most likely also gay.
People are going to hate you before you even start.
My goodness...
