Should I go to Columbia Law

Should I go to Columbia Law School? How hard is it to start a career in finance (capital markets) considering CLS's prestige and coursework in securities law, etc. after finishing a JD? Also do the banks care much about class rank like big law?

I've heard it a million times- don't go to law school unless you are set on law. But does NYC+Columbia+relevant coursework make it an exception?

If you got into Columbia law school you prob have the stats to get into an M7 bschool (assuming you have work experience, which in this case I assume you do not and that is why you have chosen to hide out in LS even though you wish to pursue finance). If I wanted to pursue a career in acting I would definitely go to cooking school. Law school teaches you how to think and act like a lawyer. The coursework is painstakingly boring unless you eventually want to pursue law and have a genuine interest. There are plenty of successful financiers who are lawyers but most of them began their careers in law and later decided that they would rather make sht happen instead of sitting in the back room drafting documents that allow other people to make sht happen. Unless you want to be a lawyer, dont go to law school.

I agree with Marcus, or GO to Columbia Law. Many Columbia Law students are hired as associates at BB firms upon graduation. Many are hired at MBB consulting firms. Alot of these 18 year old pussies on this forum dont know jack shit about finance or business. Theyre just fuckin retarded wannabies.(i.e down with sec..)

Drexel, what are you talking about dude a kid that does JD/MBA from Harvard back to back just tells me the kid wants to learn/take over the world.

I'm not an admissions officer, but if someone goes through three years of law school THEN decides on getting an MBA, it would signal they don't have a clear plan. Harvard has a JD/MBA program, why wouldn't they have applied for that? No question the combo looks good, but going ugrad->HLS->HBS, you're 27 by the time you graduate and with no work experience.
