Should I move from VC to ER?
First time on the ER forum!
I recently relocated for personal reasons and had to leave my previous gig as a VC Principal. Now looking for new jobs, and I may have the opportunity to take a position in boutique ER shop.
The reasons not to do this are somewhat obvious to me. My skill set is a bad fit for this - I would be the only non-CA on the team, I've been told I'd have to take an entry level position and learn the new role with a pay cut. Also, without carry, the upside to ER seems somewhat limited to me.
The only reason I can think of for doing this is the exit opportunity. From my own experience, I think that if I stayed in VC I'd basically have to start my own fund or make partner to move forward in my career, both of which are very tall asks. It seems to me like many ER people are hoping to go into HF. Is this accurate or is ER a long term career path in and of itself?
Anything else I am failing to consider?
