Sign on bonus for lateral Analyst?
Are sign on bonuses common for lateral analyst positions? Can these be negotiated in?
Thanks in advance.

I recently lateraled from a regional boutique bank to a middle market firm five months into the first year. I was given the standard signing bonus and did not try to negotiate as I was more than happy.
I think it is common to get a signing bonus regardless of when you start.
Hmm yeah I'm lateraling to well known MM firm now too, by no means one of the elite firms, but certainly one that everyone would know and is decently respected. There was no mention of a signing bonus in the offer letter though.. Anyone else have experience with this?
Yeah, should be normal signing/moving bonus. If you were with the firm longer, they may have pitched in more, but I'd just be expecting the same amount as other analyst got.
So the lesson here is that if you lateral to another bank they are not paying you the standard $10k (6K after tax) you should ask for it?
Would you be able to keep your 1st year signing bonus? (assuming you are lateraling before you've completed a full year). I would think that would be open to negotiation but I could be wrong. I'm currently interviewing for lateral roles and am interested in the replies.
Would banks compensate you for the bonus you would be forced to pay back to your previous employer?
