Skills gained from startup vs IB vs consulting
Hi All,
I am curious to see what your opinion is on the different set of skills gained in a tech startup vs. IB vs consulting.
I did an internship at a BB 2 summers ago and while I did get a taste of what hard work was like and gained a lot of tricks on excel, I don't know how anything I learned is really relevant to actual "business", or starting a company. Same thing with consulting roles at BCG or Bain where you do gain a lot of industry research for your vertical but most of it is grunt work.
On the other hand, startup jobs are a bit more varied depending on your role. If you are working on the business side, finance roles seem be grunt accounting work but the sales roles seem more interesting and you gain a lot of skills in relationship management, but you learn nothing technical.
