Thank you gift ideas
Hey guys,
I'd like to get a thank you gift for someone who pulled for me during the IBD recruitment process.
I was thinking perhaps a bottle of whisky or some good chocolates. I am a total noob when it comes to whisky. Any suggestions re: what is appropriate? I am looking for something good that doesn't scream college-student-who-ran-down-to-the-dep but not a $1000 bottle either.
Appreciate any help!
Laphroaig is always good. 10yr is around £30 or something like that
Laphroaig usually does the trick, but here are others that work. I buy my Glenlivet at Trader Joe's so that probably eliminates it as a class gift

Thanks for the answer guys
Good thank you gift? (Originally Posted: 09/04/2007)
so one of my contacts has been extremely helpful in finding a job. he introduced me to some people who ended up hiring me. what's an appropriate way to say thanks? a bottle of wine? gift certificate or something? just a thank you card? never sent a business related gift before!
Send him a thank you and if you live near him then offer to bring him out to dinner or something. If he says he can't make it, maybe get him a gift certificate to a really nice restaurant.
Get him a bottle of wine.
i think gomes is on the right track here...if you're farther away from him, go ahead and send him a gift certificate or a nice bottle of wine, etc
also, if you know hes a huge angler or golfer or whatever, its nice to send something relating to that hobby
however if you really want to show your gratitude, a hooker and a few grams should do the trick too...

There is this ex Managing director of a top BB who now works in recruiting and he has helped me so much with my application and preparing me for each of the rounds of interviews. He has genuinely spent so much and effort with me and even though I come from a bad non target I got far in the recruiting process and am just waiting to hear back after final rounds. I want to get him something for his help and I was wondering, does anyone have any ideas?
crazy sock of the month subscription!
Don't make it a permanent object eg something that he has to find a place for, has to wear or has to read. This is just a potentially unwanted gift that risks him/her feeling awkward about when he throws it out and has to pretend he valued when he sees you next.
Make it a consumable eg bottle of good whisky or wine. Even if he/she doesn't drink, a good bottle of whisky or wine is a useful gift as he can re-gift it or turn up at a dinner party with, even if he won't consume it himself.
If you think the guy is 'that' sort of guy, get him a box of cigars.
I was thinking about some wine or something. you are right about something he has to find a place for.
This is good advice in general for giving gifts to people you don't know, I think or even people you know very well who are hard to shop for. I got my older brother upper end whisky for med school graduation (upper end for us, we're still poor recent graduates) and he loved it.
Thank You Gift to Alumni (Originally Posted: 03/01/2009)
An alumni batted for me and got me an interview with a top bb in securities. I want to send him a gift regardless of how it turns out but I won't know an answer for a bit. I come from an ivy and my school makes cuff links with the schools logo on it. I figured it was a low-key, not that expensive but thoughtful type of gift.
Thoughts?
i think your thoughts are nice but your over doing it. simple thank you should suffice and if you do get the offer take him to lunch or drinks.
i think school-branded gear, even for something as classy as cuff links, is a bit over-the-top, personally speaking.
Agree with the above.... no gifts...
A simple thank you will suffice.... but I would say it in writing.... and make it hand-written...

.
Agree with above, a hand written thank you note speaks louder than any gift.
I agree with above, the gift is over the top. Sending him a short handwritten note would be a nice touch - I'd also offer to take him out for drinks next time you're in the same city as him.

The world has changed. And we must change with it.
Well its just weird I guess, Like what would you want if you were on the other end? If I pulled for some kid who was genuinely interested and pretty cool to talk to, it would just be a normal thing you know? I'd love a handwritten note but a gift would be like "ok?"

WOW. that is ridiculously cheap in comparison to street price
Send a thank you note, or if is a female, you can send a thank you card.
Only reason I would differentiate between a female/male for a thank you card is from my experience it seems like women react much more warmly to cards then men. With a guy, a note would probably be more personal.
In both cases, make sure you write something more than "Thanks for all the help." You want to convey how they made a very positive impact, and not by getting you an interview but just from conversations/mentorship/willingness to help.
Gift Ideas for Starbucks Staff?? (Originally Posted: 07/25/2013)
I recently accepted a job offer so I will no longer frequent the same Starbucks that I have been going to for the past 2 years. The people that work there are amazing and I would like to get them something to say thank you. Please help me come up with some quality gift ideas.
Any suggestions?

not sure if serious or just plain weird
Those gift cards to nice restaurants from Costco are always a hit in my experience.
Nope I'm serious
Starbucks gift cards
Drop a nice big tip with a note for the next drink night to be on you...or gift card for similar experience
Cash. The fact you can sacrifice your ego and not get something more "thoughtful" is thoughtful in and off itself.
As a former barista, this is where it's at. Seriously though just saying thanks is enough, but if you want to give them more money they won't turn ya down.
I think tip would be the most logical gift to teh baristas. I mean would you expect them to all split a $30 gift card to Red Lobster? C'mon man.
Came here to post this. Hilarious
Beat me to it!
