they say networking networking networking, but how? especially in Europe
Hey,
to start this off, I´m not some whiny guy who is too lazy or too shy to network or meet people. I´m just a bit confused since I registered on this board 2 weeks ago.
Is it possible that 90% of the threads here are full off American students (yes I know “wallstreetoasis” hehehe)?
I don’t know how to explain it exactly, but the system over here seems to be completely different then the one you have ... on my Uni for example there is absolute no way to just meet some Alumni and talk to them and ask them for help to get into IB. First off, most of them might not even be in IB, second there are no meetings or club structures like you might have it in America and third, if they are in IB they are in a whole different country.
Don´t get me wrong, my University is good, it´s just the economic surrounding where I live in because it is shaped by tourism and industry (I live in Germany) and not by big financial institutions.
On some threads they even spoke that firms like JPM and other BBs came by Uni on a regular base to go to dinner with some students, like wtf, no way this would ever happen here.
Again, I don´t want to cry but is it possible that some of you encounter the same problems especially when studying for a Bachelor in Europe?
I´m extremely hard working and dedicated, have top grades and a keen interest´s in the markets and therefore a good technical knowledge but I have absolutely no idea how to get to know someone in IB, I mean should I just add a random person on fb?!?!

Create a good LinkedIn profile with a professional picture, then start adding and reaching out to people who work in firms/sectors/teams you want to work in. You can start with people who are from your same country/university. Obviously not everyone will answer you (maybe 10% will) so you need to push hard for it.
Hi, I have the same problems, I live in Italy so the situation is exactly the same (and we don't have Deutsche Bank which at least does some IB). The majority of the students that got a summer internship at a BB comes from Masters program, so as Bachelor student( like me), is not that easy. I'm just sending the applications and hoping to arrive as far as I can with the rounds so to gain some experience in the recruting process but I don't really think I'm going to land a summer program. About networking same: I think networking is important if you want to try the off-cycle program in your town but apart from that It's quite difficult to obtain some advantages
I don´t think it´s impossible I will try everything I can to land one next summer, I have a bit of unique CV (before University) and hope this could at least give me a phone interview or a super day invite, still realistic though.
I´m just always a bit concerned when I see people here writing (or youtube videos) that talk about networking. The way they describe it is simply impossible over here in Europe, at least if youre not living in London.
I will try everything too, what I meant was being realistic
Yeah about London networking it's true
