Tier 2 BB --> Move to Tier 1 Bank or PE?
Hey guys I'm a 1st year analyst at a Tier 2 IB in London. Been contacted by quite a few PE places but not Blackstone KKR etc. Jump ship now or wait? Heard exit opps in my team are pretty good e.g. top PE after a few years, although exit opps from the bank in general aren't amazing. Or try lateral to Tier 1 IB then jump?
Tier 2 BBs in London do usually get looks from top MF, the thing is what kind of BB are you talking about (BAML/Citi) or (CS/ Barc) as this may affect it too.
Also languages are a plus to be considered
European BB. Just thinking in terms of long run would be good to get Tier 1 name on my CV anyway no?
Haha no languages for me apart from from English and GCSE Latin ;)
I wouldn't disregard your GCSE Latin - KKR have recently started a "Roman Empire" fund to be run out of their new offices at Hadrian's Wall and in the Colosseum
If you are in a good group should not be a problem still, you just need to have some dealflow and HHs will knock the door.
At the end of the day they want to maximize their earnings...
U reckon its still a good idea to interview for the smaller funds for practice or dont bother? End goal is still MFs.
Tbh rather enjoy any spare time I have instead of interviewing unless its gonna be super important...
I would be careful
I think that it may help to practice, but if you end up failing too much or the HHs think you are not strong enough you will be fucked.
You will need to decide if you think you can prepare yourself or not. Try having mock interviews with your peers (if they are recruting) and look for materials and case studies
To jump on this thread, I'm currently interning in ECM at a tier 2 BB (so no exit ops at all), was looking at applying to tier 1's and trying to move into M&A (LT goal is PE), but couldn't decide if I should risk FT recruiting or play it safer because I'm in ECM and apply for SA's again.
Don't suppose you would share what group you're in? No worries if not. Just wondering if this is generalist PE
