To IB Or Not To IB

I (28M) feel like I'm at a crossroads in my life. I've been working in a technical support role at a healthcare IT company for the past 2 years, and I'm starting to hate my job, so I'm looking at other careers. Ideally, I'd like to end up in a big city making a decent amount of money; I'm looking at the following careers:

  • Software Engineer - I can take night classes for 2 more semesters, and I can transfer to software engineer position at my current company, but I'd likely need to stay at my current job for 2 years to get some solid experience. After that I'd join a startup. I like the idea of joining a startup for numerous reasons - mainly the fact that I'd get equity, which would motivate me after the initial rush of getting a new job.
  • Real Estate Developer - I could get a masters in real estate development and then join a development firm as an analyst - eventually I could start my own shop. I love tall buildings, and the business model of real estate development makes a lot intuitive sense to me. I like the idea of taking a empty lot and turning it into a trhiving building.
  • Investment Banker -I could do a two year MBA, and hop in as an associate. I like the idea of helping companies raise capital and debt to help them grow. Even if I not actually part of the next big thing, I think it would be cool to help them achieve their goals.

Did you guys face similar dilemmas? How did you ultimately choose what career path to go down?
