Top Healthcare IB Groups/Firms - Europe
It's been a while since a Healthcare IB post has been made and the ones made tend to focus on the US.
I was wondering if you guys know which banks have strong healthcare/biotech/pharma groups in Europe, ideally hiring (past or present) in: London, Paris, Madrid or Amsterdam. I am also interested perhaps in knowing about strong healthcare IB firms that operate in or have an office in Europe; think Leerink or Cain Brothers but in Europe.
Ps. Do Cain Brothers or Leerink have a European office in the pipeline?
Thanks for any help

Rothschild is strong for HC in Europe. Groups in europe don't matter as much as in the US, hence the lack of response.
Also it really depends on what you want to do on the long term. Stay in IB? Move to the Buy-Side?
Do you speak any of the languages for the offices you named? Paris/Madrid/Amsterdam, you do not stand a chance for them without a native level
Now I'm in pharma/biotech management consulting. The idea would be a move to IB after 2-3 years experience and perhaps an MBA if needed.
Languages for Paris and Madrid are 'business proficient' - not native but I used them at work to speak with clients or colleagues. 0 knowledge of Dutch for now.
I agree most of the activity is in the US and that any individual European country is a small market but the EU5 collectively are still large - hence why I thought there would be quite a bit of activity
Move to IB for the long term? Or try to get into HC PE/ HealthTech VC/BioTech VC?
I know that for french offices business proficient will not be good enough most of the time.
GS and MS are supposed to be strong, but this isn't too much of a surprise, I guess.
I also agree with the previous post in that groups are less important than in the US, however, it still can prove beneficial to be among the top-performing groups when looking for buy side opps.
Amsterdam IB at BB or EB is limited to NL/Benelux Coverage teams, for which you will need to speak Dutch. I'm not aware of any HC focused shops.
Currently JPM is absolutely killing it in Europe. They’ve got twice as much market share YTD as MS (who’ve historically been strongest in European HC). PjT has a strong Hc franchise as well as they often manage to place themselves on a few bigger cross boarder deals. Evercore similarly but a bit weaker sector knowledge. Rothschild does relatively well in Sevrvices which is more in line with its MM focus but wouldn’t consider them one of the big boys. GS does not have a strong HC franchise in Europe they’re curently adding to their senior ranks though but wouldn’t consider them tier 1 - with tier 1 being JPM, MS, PJT.
Additionally, was told by an industry insider that JPM possesses a unique Life Sciences-decidated hiring channel, a specificity not found at other BB/EB.
Don't know if that says a lot about the bank's pharma & Healthcare market share.
Roths is one of the strongest. Also, juniors there hate their life.
By juniors do you mean only Analysts or also Associates?
Can confirm this. Most analysts apparently already left due to the pressure.
Rothschild has one of the strongest HC teams in Europe
