Transferred from target to semi-target for social reasons, should I keep on resume?
I used to go to a top-10 US school and then transferred to a semi-target top 20 because of my involvement in a disciplinary case (even though I was proven innocent, I had to settle with the administration - they basically couldn't let me get off scott free). I always get asked why I transferred to a "lower" school, and the explanation is embarrassing - should I take my old school off my resume and Linkedin? I'm worried that bankers will review my transcript, see that I don't have the school on my resume, and start bringing up awkward questions if I do - if I leave it, I have to answer those awkward questions in the interview. My new school GPA is much higher than the old school's GPA if that matters at all.
Could you explain the nature of the disciplinary case?
TBH if it's not too bad then I would keep it on, especially since you were innocent. I go to a semi-target and judging from the posts here + friends, it seems like you get your foot in the door by going to a target.
It's not good...I was accused of assaulting a girl, which blew up into a 9 month ordeal. Turns out she made it all up for attention, but people at the school still believe the rumors. It's an awkward conversation every time someone asks, I have to make up something about the business school so I don't have to talk about it. I'm wondering if bankers will think the same way.
This is why I think there has to be a reform on how campuses (and all of society for that matter) deals with sexual assault allegations
Shit. I'm so sorry, man.
Honestly, I would still leave the school in. I go to a semi-target and it is really hard because they do filter your resume based on which schools appear on it.
Like someone else mentioned, I would try and think of an alternative story and leave out some of the details. However, if your name has been reported anywhere (i.e: if they can google this shit up) then I would 100% remove it.
TBH if I could construct a failproof lie/story about why I switched schools that seemed believable and even relatable I would go with it. Forgoing the target uni name for a attention hoe would be my last resort.
That being said, do so only if you are 110% certain that the story won't leak from somewhere else
top 10 vs top 20 isn't that big, and people talk about these things. This coming up in any interview is almost guaranteed ding regardless of the result. New GPA is higher anyway, I would leave it out.
Firstly, just leave the school off your resume man and you'll be good. Secondly, that's fuckin bullshit. Knew a guy that this happened to at my school. Long story short she made the shit up too, and he's suing her ass for slandering his name and punitive damages. If your case was dismissed, you now have a paper trail and if you can prove your reputation was socially destroyed (you had to move schools man, this is good grounds for proof) you should sue her sorry ass for slander because that's so stupid that your life should take a hit due to her spite. Lawyer up my friend, you deserve justice.
+SB for lawyering up. Get yourself some justice, big fella.
