Transferring Offices, Same Group
I'm a first year associate in the tech group of a well-known bank in SF. My girlfriend is about to get an offer for a job in NYC that would require us to relocate. What's the protocol on initiating a transfer from SF to NYC? Would I need to re-interview / brush up on technicals or would it be softer conversations with folks in the group? Or would it just be HR? My bank has a large tech group in NYC that I've been on a few cross-staffings with so I could reach out to them or others from my business school class. I wouldn't want to step on any toes at my office here though so need to be sensitive about how I do my outreach internally. Thanks all.
Hard to say without knowing the culture of your firm, but I would start with a conversation with your group head.
Try to find someone who has done it before (either way) in your group (hopefully an Associate or VP) and then reach out to them and see how they did it.
