?? Apply for them?
no shit.. im a CC transfer and needed help on how to prepare for interviews for them..
Read an interview guide? Like there's so much info out there? Network? No shit?
I go to USC/UCLA. Just so you know, putting a one-liner on WSO asking for an internship like you are entitled will not get you one
I did not mean to come off as being entitled to an internship. No one owes me shit. I did not phrase my initial post correctly.
Take this respectfully from a fellow transfer. You went about your post the wrong way, the thread has nothing to do with the title "UCLA econ." (I'm assuming that's your school & major?)
In addition: I'm going to be quite frank, stop telling people you went to a CC. In fact, completely forget you ever went there. It's not a badge of honor and nobody cares. I'm sure you worked your ass off to make it out, but you are now a UCLA or USC student. Congratulations on making it this far (now the real work starts).
As for your interview guide, I would check out the following posts to start: https://www.wallstreetoasis.com/forums/investment-banking-interview-que… https://www.wallstreetoasis.com/forums/what-i-wish-every-first-year-ana… https://www.wallstreetoasis.com/forums/investment-banking-analyst-15-th…
I'll also selfishly plug my own post, because I think we have a productive conversation happening on the thread about sell-side M&A: https://www.wallstreetoasis.com/forums/overview-of-sell-side-ma
I appreciate the input! I do not live near any firms at the moment. I contacted local PWM firms, but they all said that they are not taking any inters for the summer. I got into USC for Marshall, but they didn't give me any money for financial aid so I decided to go to UCLA for Bizecon. Also, I didn't go to CC because I had poor grades. I went that route because of the fact that I am financially conscious and decided to alleviate the financial stress off of myself and my parents. Thanks for the link to the posts!
Firstly, get in touch with the finance club and get to know some people you can ask about your resume, story.
HL / imperial / siemer also take year round interns but not sure about pay. Their summer classes are full obviously. If you are in LA now, there are a number of mm pe shops that might be open to an unpaid intern. You should reach out ASAP if you have nothing on your resume for summer/fall (emails will be found on fund websites).
Most people do not care about CC, but the right spin could be attractive to some guys so don't discount it either. You just need to get your story straight. You have an uphill battle if you are going into junior year.
Good luck
Will firms like the ones you listed above take someone with no prior professional finance experience? As of right now, I dont give a fk about the pay to be honest. I am trying to crank it out and glean as much information on the business as I can. I met a mentor that provided with a lot of info regarding the technical side of the interviews. I'm just confused on how to attack the year. My goal right now is to gain experience.
It's definitely possible to get there without experience. I would highlight coursework. I think your best bet is mm/lower-mm PE as they would have some grunt work for you to do (keep in mind many firms you look at may not need you in any way, shape, or form). From there, you have something to talk about in 2018 SA interviews.
