VC Jobs in Silicon Valley

Does anybody know how to get into VC out in Cali?

Just as analyst experience in IB at a BB is the way into an associate spot in PE, is it the same for VC???

Not referring to just finance jobs either, I'm interested in Ops, Accounting, etc.

Almost every IBanker I run into at the bars, I like to drink and socialize, is asking me how to get into VC. I work in VC and don't know too many VC's that are trying to get into IB if they are at the associate level or higher, base pay is similar and bonuses are higher at VC firms (IB bonuses are annual and so are VC bonuses, but are drasitcally different year to year, the VC business model is long term vs the constant revenue associated with IB).

I work in VC as a low level analyst without a engineering/cS degree; ergo, I need to be as good as I possibly can be on the financial/investing skill set. I am looking to switch to IB to acquire.

If you want to work in VC you definately want to be on the investing side, not the accounting or operations side.

As in IB, the front office is compensated a whole hell of a lot better.

Associates at VC firms take a number of different career paths; IB, Operating (typically have to work for a successful start up), Consulting etc. A path for the firms focusing in the life science industry is slightly different as their canidates tyipcally have PhD's.
