"Welcome" and/or "Beginner Thread"

Hey,

I have just noticed lately (including myself) there seems to be a good number of people who are new to the site and or asking alot of questions that a bunch of the regulars get tired of answering/seeing often.

How about a beginner thread with the basics of the site, the layout, how to use search effectively and maybe a thread about what all the abbreviations mean. Alot of people are using shorthand in their messages/threads and not everyone is keen on what every single one means.

Also, Books is a hot topic and comes up often. People seem to be coming here on the recommendation of getting more information of all sorts. So maybe a list of good introductory books that the site moderators recommend (i know there is a thread similiar to this somewhere).

Just my .02

There's not a terribly good solution to this. If new kids don't use the basic search tools at their disposal, they're not going to read the beginner thread.

Speaking as a beginner, I feel I am an expert on the subject.

Thanks DMCD, if only we had a welcome thread kids would not ask about drug tests or background checks anymore.

Ignore him. He got a good nights rest last night......and you know what he didn't "get".

Seriously though, not a bad suggestion. I think Patrick should write a word document and have it appear during the registration process (like those stupid agreements whenever you download a new software and all you do is click except with out reading). Perhaps Patrick can put a 30 sec time delay on being able to ht accept and/or make the document visually stunning so a person will read it---it's not like its going to be 100 pages of legal shit.

Dont really understand what the lambasting was for but whatever. As for the FAQ page... try putting it under the "Forum" tab since a majority of it pertains to forum material. I didnt even know it existed til someone mentioned its under the "about" tab...

And if you dont want "suggestions" anthony, dont have a suggestions tab. Wow, thats a novel idea. Now give me a Nobel Peace Prize. I didnt quite deserve it before.

Oh this was under suggestions. My bad. I've never actually gone to those individual tabs, just recent.

The sticky post idea has been discussed before. No go.
