West Coast Banking-East Coast School

I go to a LAC on the east coast that most would consider a target for NY offices. Many BBs recruit on campus and we have many alumni in IB, but most of them are in New York. I want to go into tech banking. I major in economics and CS and am really interested in Tech M&A.

But, when I look at the EB tech M&A shops on the west coast, most of them have no alumni from my school. I'm not sure if I should network with NY alumni from my school and tell them I want to end up in SF/Menlo Park. Is it going to be impossible to break in?

Definitely possible to break in. I'd reach out to those alumni in NY and express your interest in working in the tech group and see if they'd be willing to reach out to anyone they know in those other offices. During the interviewing process banks were pretty accomodating when I said I'd like to be in the NYC office despite being at a west coast school.
