what level of positions to network with?
I just read through similar posts and it is often suggested to network with analyst and associate to get informational interview. it’s is also suggested for us to ask the analyst ‘who else should I speak to ?
I’m just just little confused that, isn’t that networking with analyst or associate would make them put your resume in the refer system to help you get a first round interview? or we should be referred to someone else like VP or Senior Associate to get the first round interview? In this case, why not try networking with senior associate first?
In all, I’m just curious who to speak to and who in the bank has the right to put you in the first round interview.
thanks.
Network with everyone. It is always better to talk to more people because you never know where your career is going to end up, but here are some helpful guidelines below.
Analyst: They will review resumes and sit in on interviews. They will flag resumes and sometimes setup interviews. Also you can often get away with asking somewhat stupid questions when networking and not (most of the time) get completely shut down.
Associates and VPs: They will preform interviews (VPs less so) and often have a a large say in who gets hired. Networking can often be a little tricky and you definitively need to be prepared to network with this level.
Directors (and High VPs): These bad boys will be your golden ticket if you can get in contact with them. You have to be polished but, if you play your cards right they are the ones that can make sure that you get the offer at the end of the day.
Heads of banking and CEOs: Lets face if you have the ability to get on a CEO's Calendar there is a good chance your last name is on the front door, in which case networking is for the "lower class" according to the silver spoon in your mouth.
