When to follow up twice with IB Managing Partner who committed to help?

Hey guys,

I am new to this site and I would really appreciate your insights/opinions on this following matter:

8 weeks ago I was lucky enough to get an informational interview with a managing partner at a bulge bracket investment bank (like J.P., GS, MS, BofA etc.). He offered me to arrange a day at firm in order for me to network. I felt that we connected and I received a positive feedback. He also mentioned that I should send him a reminder after 4 weeks just in case he forgets. Which I did. Now I'm not sure whether he completely forgot or if he decided not to help me out anymore. What should I do?

I thought to ask his assistant for his birthday (hoping it's in the near future) in order to send him a card to remind him about me. Would that be a smart idea?

Thanks in advance!

I doubt he's not interested in helping you anymore, given that he was so adamant in helping you before. He's busy, he probably forgot, as you are at the bottom of his priority list.

Just give him another shout.

Also, I would absolutely not send him a birthday card!

Unless this MD is your uncle, whom you have shared a fifth of bourbon with, prior to spending a night at the strip club nailing lines of white lightning and stuffing cash down the linens of scantily clad and morally questionable women, I would not get that personal.

What I would recommend, would be to buy a card of high quality material, and pen him a written note of thank you, and express your gratitude & willingness to continue a relationship with his firm. The bourbon & white lightning can wait until you've reached the associate level.

"Joe,

I wanted to follow up on our discussion about setting up a day for me to come in and ______. If you can let me know a few days that work for you and your colleagues I'll make one of those dates work on my side.

Thanks again for giving me this opportunity. I'm excited to see how XXX Bank operates on a daily basis and to meet your team.

Best regards,

DingDong"

Reply to the previous email so it doesn't just get thrown into the "Hi How Are You" bullshit bucket. Or call him.
