Who has the best shot at becoming Skynet?

We all know the Tech powerhouses: Amazon, Google, FaceBook, Apple, etc.

Which of them are in a position to emulate Terminator's Skynet?

If you asked me 2 years ago, I would have said Google, without a moment's thought. The answer seemed simple, they have data on everyone, everywhere, and everything. This was also around the time they were developing Google Glass, and sci-fi aficionados were envisioning Google microchips in our brains.

Recent events have caused me to change my mind. With Amazon having a field day with its shares this morning, and several lead analysts upgrading their share price, Jeff Bezos must be a happy man right now. Amazon is in a ton of sectors, web hosting, e-commerce, consumer electronics, and isn't showing any signs of stopping.

I for one, welcome our Supreme Overlord Jeff Bezos.

Google.

This video amazed me:

The PM who showed me the video said that when he visited Google they had also done the same thing with a first person shooter game. Said it was the scariest thing he had ever seen in his life.

Nobody. Skynet as conceived in the movies would be easily defeated given even today's technology. Frankly, given just resource scarcity, we have nothing to worry about. The only potential danger might come from a quantum computer well into the future that can satisfactorily emulate real intelligence, and not the basic statistical equations everyone calls AI nowadays.

But if bait is what you're looking for, check out Boston Dynamics. They're rolling out robot dogs and other cool stuff.

in it 2 win it

I just deleted everything but Google, which still adds immense value without all the social garbage. Google is great. If Google wants to run shit, I'm all for it. They'll do a better job than the gov.

No company that currently exists. The problem companies like google and amazon have is they have far to many existing capital requirements and shareholders to devote the intense amount of highly focused resources that are required to develop something like skynet.

Both Google and Amazon have the amount of capital, combined with the lack of moral standards and scientific lust for progress to cause that.
