Whole loan trading, good place to start career? re post

I posted a similar thread in the trading forum.

I am an incoming intern at a top tier BB (MS, GS, JPM) and through networking I have developed a relationship with the whole loan trading desk. I am curious, would that be a good place to start my career? I understand what the basic responsibilities of the desk are, but how transferrable are the skills that I would learn as an analyst on the desk applicable to other areas of RE finance?
